Fillers

Parenthesis Have a Place, But Not On Your Face

Fillers are used to restore fullness to your lips and cheeks, and reduce wrinkles. At the Center for Aesthetic Medicine Dr. Kamra uses various fillers including Juvederm, Restylene and Perlane. We specialize in improving your natural look and making you more attractive and youthful. Juvéderm® is made of hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally occurs in the skin and joints. Hyaluronic acid increases volume and maximizes hydration. The Juvéderm® family of dermal fillers are formulated with innovative HYLACROSS® technology, resulting in a smooth-consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and creates a natural look and feel for your patients. It is the only filler with FDA approval to last up to 1 year with initial treatment.

Difference between Juvéderm® and Restylane®?

Juvéderm® contains a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid than Restylane®. Both fillers have different consistencies and Dr. Kamra, depending on your corrections may recommend one or the other. Juvéderm® is also supposed to last around eight months, as compared to six months for Restylane®. Dr. Karma will decide which product is right for you to achieve maximum results.

What are Fillers used for?

  • Restoring volume to the lower face
  • Filling in nasolabial folds or "smile lines"
  • Filling in "marionette" lines at the corners of the mouth
  • Enhancing the lips
  • Enhancing the cheeks
  • Correcting down turned lips
  • Eliminating under eye dark circles by filling in the groove underneath the lower eyelid ("Non Surgical Eye Lift")

The Filler Consultation

During the initial consultation, we determine which filler is right for your desired correction. We do this by by examining the soft tissue of your face to assess the depth of wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm® XC injectable gel is available in two formulations-Juvéderm® Ultra XC for versatility in contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds in the skin, and Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC, a robust formulation for volumizing and correcting deeper folds and wrinkles in the skin. This allows us to better tailor treatment to your unique skin volume needs. Dr. Kamra may choose to use Restylene or Perlane as well. The specific filler is ultimately determined after a through examination and consultation.

What Can I Expect During The Filler Treatment?

First a numbing cream is placed on the area that is to be injected for about 20 minutes. Ice will also be applied for numbing and to prevent bruising. Juvéderm® XC is specially formulated with lidocaine (a type of anesthetic) which improves the comfort even further during treatment. Once the area is numb and iced, the filler is injected with a very thin needle in a series of small injections.

Following the injection, we gently massage the treated areas. The procedure is quick and easy and the results are instant! The injection itself usually takes only about 15 minutes.

Post Procedure

You should avoid the following for at least 24 hours after treatment:

  • Strenuous exercise
  • Consumption of alcoholic beverages
  • Extended exposure to sun or heat

You may experience pain, tenderness, temporary redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, and bumps at the injection sites. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in 7 days or less. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period.

Results

Immediate improvement is noted in the treatment areas. Just one treatment with Juvéderm® XC can smooth away your wrinkles for up to 1 year! However, results from injectable dermal fillers may vary and correction is temporary. Supplemental "touch up" treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal correction of your wrinkles and folds.
